Student Spotlight: Tyra S.
We are excited to recognize Tyra S. for our Access Academies Student Spotlight program!
According to her teachers, Tyra is “a very well-rounded and motivated leader. She is also at the top of her in class in academics.”
Grade: 8th
A student since 7th grade, Tyra transferred because her parents were not happy with public schooling. Her cousin, Montrell R., graduated from SLK last year and was doing exceptionally well in high school.
Favorite Subject: Math. “Math comes easily to me, and I like working with numbers.”
Current Academy Programs: Career & College Clubs (aka the Access curriculum), Robotics, Media & Literacy, Coding, and Girl Talk.
Favorite Academy Program: Girl Talk. “It is a small class and the teacher is nice. We have talent shows and do arts and crafts.”
Favorite Field Trip: Going to on a campus tour at Washington University. “It was a nice school, and they had a lot of majors.”
Prospective High School: Rosati Kain. “The school is close to my family. I have a twin brother and we try to stay close. I also have a friend there.”
Career Aspiration: Tyra aspires to become a heart surgeon.
Role Model: Her mother. “She does what she likes, and has always been a leader. She also likes math and makes me laugh.”
